Quantum Healer and Birthkeeper
A birthkeeper is normally someone with a qualification, such as being a trained midwife, and has the knowledge to support women during natural physiological birth. As I have retired from the NHS, and therefore no longer governed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, I cannot now call myself Midwife. I do, however, still possess all the experience, knowledge and training, and consider myself very much a traditional birthworker in the way I look after those giving birth.
It is so very different working as a birthkeeper - I am able to support you to give birth in the way you want by holding and maintaining a safe and supportive space. My role is to support you in any choices about your maternity care you wish to make and to walk beside you, facilitating as natural, physiological, and intervention-free birth as possible. My ethos is to honour the sacredness of your birth and to align with your individual needs.
I can be there as an advocate for you when you need, and give practical and emotional support not just to you, but your partner and other family members. From your first booking with me I am available for you to contact whenever you need.
Because I am not under the busy constraints that NHS midwives are, I have time to listen to your needs and provide the continuity of care and support that is often sadly missing from a stretched NHS.
You and your baby are the beating heart of the care I give.
For the full package, there are a minimum of four antenatal visits with weekly post 40-weeks visits on top of this. Antenatal education classes and birth plan formation are integrated within your antenatal care along with tailored, individualised hypnosis and meditation. I am available for you to call upon any time day or night from two weeks before your due date until baby's, or babies', arrival. This doesn't mean I can't be there for you if baby comes before time, though!
Following birth, I will make sure you are settled before leaving and return for further visits, which are also included. This may be for help with breastfeeding or purely allowing you some time to bathe and sleep for a few hours.
Homeopathy, reiki and reflexology are complementary for all my clients - especially good when you go post-dates, or a nice foot massage postnatally - along with making homeopathic remedies and tinctures from your placenta.
I have a wealth of experience behind me, having qualified as both a Midwife and Registered Nurse. I worked as a caseload midwife with a team that had a 40% home birth rate, labour ward co-ordinator and unit manager at a busy London hospital, as well as being a staff nurse on a baby paediatric ward and special care unit. Homebirths are a true love of mine and I have supported twin and breech births both in hospital and at home. I happily support VBAC, vaginal breech and free birth (it's not unusual for my clients to freebirth as they are often let down my the NHS). Around 85% of my clients have a vaginal birth - compare this with the latest NHS data with a national rate of around 50% caesarean births. Less than 5% of my clients have inductions of labour and several go past 42 weeks pregnancy with very good outcomes.
I am a proud member of the Association of Radical Midwives and AIMS. I am a birthkeeper and mentor students with When Push Comes to Shove, an organisation that is an alternative maternity care system to the NHS. And I absolutely adore Kemi Johnson! I have undertaken professional development courses in advanced paediatric life support, breech, and twin pregnancy and birth. I am registered with Doula UK.
I live in Gosport so my area covers mainly Hampshire and West Sussex - Southampton, Romsey, New Forest, Eastleigh, Winchester, Petersfield, Midhurst, Chichester, Havant, Hayling Island, Portsmouth, Fareham and, of course, Gosport - I am your Hampshire "Doula near to me"! However, I will also cover further afield (through to Surrey, Dorset and East Sussex) but do ask for help with fuel and the extra time required for travel.
Please contact me to see how I can support your pregnancy and birth - this discovery call has no charge and there is no obligation on your part. I also offer debriefs from previous births if you are looking for this service.
I look forward to meeting you!
I am very privileged to be able to support wonderful people and their beautiful babies. It is my sole aim to ensure that you achieve the best birth you can.
I am available by phone, text, WhatsApp or email. I will normally respond quickly when urgent or within twenty-four hours if non-urgent. If you get no response to email within 3 days, please text as emails sometimes get sent to spam. Thank you.
